** Update: So I made our sponge balls this week! I used a cheaper sponge from Dollar tree in the craft section. You get 10 in a bag for $1 instead of just 2 like the kind pictured below, (the kind in the picture below are also at Dollar tree). One bag of 10 sponges makes 3 sponge balls with a sponge to spare. So if you buy 3 bags you can make 10 balls. They turned out great! I used some cotton yarn and tied double knots and then wrapped the yarn back around and tied again. We hope to use them today!**
*** Ok so we used the sponge balls! They were even more fun than I expected! I was amazed at how well they held the water! I had used some cotton yarn to tie them together. Well, after getting wet the cotton yarn does stretch just a teensy bit. Enough though for my curious 3 yr. old to try and pull a strip out. :) So I would suggest a rubber band would be a better grip. I do like the color options in the picture below, so I may get a few of them just to add some variety. :) I give this project a 5 star! We had great fun playing catch with them and cooling off at the same time! ***
Hey guys! I just came across this awesome idea for my kiddos this summer! Go check out this video on how to make sponge balls. I have seen moms use rubber bands to tie the center of the sponge strips. You could use what ever you find around the house probably. Can't wait to make them next week!
Enjoy!
